Therapy & support

Men’s mental health

A space to talk about what is happening in your life and the support you are looking for.

Psychological support in Rockhampton, Yeppoon and via telehealth.

A place to start, wherever you’re at

You might have a clear reason for seeking support, or simply feel that things haven’t been right for a while. Perhaps work is taking over, relationships feel strained, or you’re finding it harder to switch off and feel like yourself.

You don’t need to have everything worked out before getting in touch. At Invision Psychology, therapy offers space to talk through what’s happening, understand what matters to you and work towards changes that fit your life.

When support might help

Mental health concerns can look different from person to person. You may notice worry, low mood, irritability, withdrawal or feeling overwhelmed. These experiences don’t automatically mean you have a mental health condition, but they can be a reason to seek support — particularly when they persist or affect everyday life.

You might want to talk about:

  • Stress, work pressure or difficulty switching off.
  • Anxiety, low mood or losing interest in things you usually enjoy.
  • Relationship difficulties, separation or becoming a parent.
  • Grief, loss or major changes in your life.
  • The effects of difficult or traumatic experiences.
  • Loneliness, self-worth, identity or feeling disconnected from others.

There is no single way to experience being a man. Your background, relationships, sexuality, culture and personal values can all shape what support feels useful to you.

How therapy can help

Therapy is a collaborative process. Together, you and your psychologist can explore patterns in your thoughts, feelings, behaviour and relationships, and decide what you would like to work on.

Depending on your needs, this might involve finding ways to manage stress, respond differently to difficult emotions, communicate what you need or work through experiences that continue to affect you. Sessions can make room for practical strategies as well as understanding the broader picture.

You can read more about our psychological therapy services and support for trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Your psychologist will discuss which approach may suit your circumstances.

What to expect

Start with what’s happening now. Your first appointment is an opportunity to explain what brought you in, ask questions and discuss what you hope might change. It’s okay if you’re unsure how to put it into words.

Agree on a direction together. Your psychologist will work with you to understand your concerns and discuss a plan that reflects your needs and goals. They will also explain confidentiality and its limits.

Review what is useful. As sessions progress, you can discuss what is helping and what needs to change. You don’t need previous experience of therapy to take part.

Find a psychologist you feel comfortable with

Feeling able to speak openly matters. Our team page introduces our psychologists, their backgrounds and approaches. If you’re unsure who to see, include that in your enquiry so we can discuss the available options.
